How do I obtain a residence permit?
In several sessions at the event, you’ll learn about the options you have to obtain a residence permit in Austria. Third-country nationals (all people who are not EU, EEA or Swiss nationals) who are skilled workers looking for a job or already have a binding job offer from an Austrian company can qualify for either a Red–White–Red–Card or a Blue Card.
EU citizens
As an EU citizen, you enjoy the same rights as an Austrian national regarding residence and employment in Austria. Therefore, no residence or work permit is needed to start working in Austria.

Red-White-Red – Card
Austria’s Red–White–Red–Card (“Rot-Weiß-Rot – Karte”) offers a residence permit for third-country nationals who want to work as skilled employees in Austria and stay in Austria permanently. There are seven sub-categories, and depending on your background, you may collect points for the Red–White–Red–Card.

Blue Card
Suppose you are a highly-qualified skilled worker and have already received a binding job offer from an Austrian company with a comparatively high salary. In that case, you qualify for an EU Blue Card (“Blaue Karte EU”). You will need to have completed university studies that match your job offer. Please note that the Blue Card does not apply a point system like most Red–White–Red–Cards.

Special rules for Ukrainian refugees
Currently, there are special rules in place for Ukrainian refugees who had to flee from their home country due to the war. They automatically receive a residence and work permit valid for up to a year and eligible for extension.

Family immigration to Austria
Austria welcomes all close family members of skilled international employees and offers various residence permits for them. As a rule, immediate family members are considered wives/husbands, civil partners and children under the age of 18.
